Summer is the prime time for allergies, especially in your cat. If they are strictly indoors then you might not have much to worry about.

However, if your cat ever explores the outdoors, they could experience allergies. To read more about the symptoms and what to look out for, click here.

So now that you know how to recognize those symptoms, what next?

Treatment comes in many forms, depending on what you’re comfortable with.

Diagnosis:

The first step before treatment is to diagnose your cat’s allergies. Are they environmental? Seasonal? Figuring out the exact cause can help determine the most appropriate treatment.

Natural or No?

Once determining the exact allergens that are causing issues for your cat, you need to decide how you want to address treatment. There are natural methods of treatment or medicinal routes.

For medicinal routes you will notice almost immediate changes in your cat. They will improve quickly after treatment and seem brand new.

The downside to medications are the side effects. With every medication comes a list of side effects that may or may not be severe for your pet.

Side effects of steroids used to treat allergies include:

  • Loss of Energy
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Panting
  • Change in Behavior
  • Suppressed Immune System
  • Increased Chance of Infection
  • Stomach Ulcers
  • Poor Wound Healing
  • Loss of Bladder Control
  • Hair Loss
  • Increased Blood Pressure

This list doesn’t cover the entirety of the side effects, but it gives insight as to the possibilities of what your cat may experience.

If you want to avoid side effects completely, natural routes are also an option.

The top two recommendations are diet and vet choice.

Diet:

Some symptoms can be alleviated by changing their diets. Looking into a natural diet that deviates from canned/kibble cat food can be beneficial for their immune systems. In addition, looking into elimination diets can also prove to be helpful.

Homeopathy:

If you want to explore natural treatment plans for your plan, it’s best to look into a homeopathic vet. They will look at your cat’s history and health and determine what treatment plan makes the most sense.

The other added benefit is that there are no side effects for this treatment.

Prevention:

Lastly, the best alternate method is prevention. By prevention we mean supplementation. When you supplement, you are giving your cat the proper nutrition to keep them healthy for the long term.

For this we recommend Feline Immune Complete. This will give your cat more energy and also boost their immune system.

Allergies are no joke, especially when symptoms are wreaking havoc on your cat. Knowing the ways to navigate these symptoms and a treatment plan can make it all the more easier.
